Long-time Reggae DJ Jordan Rain of “YOGOMAN and his Burning Band” will be backing 60’s Reggae Legend Winston Jarrett from Jamaica, and playing their own set, to remind America of one of the sweetest and most danceable genres of all time: Rock Steady. Rain has been a live Deejay/Selector of Jamaican tunes from his Bellingham home base for nearly two decades, keeping Jamaica’s foundation music alive and listenable to the public, while leading his own band which has been heavily inspired by that music. YOGOMAN is a primarily original live group who’s music is known for their inspirational, celebratory qualities, while being well received by fans of all-ages.

At 76 years old, Winston Jarrett, is the wise, well-travelled, and kind Reggae Godfather who is still singing strong as one of the forefathers of the Ska, Rock Steady, and Reggae from Jamaica. This Revue will center around the Rock Steady genre that existed between 1966-68 in Jamaica after Ska and just before Reggae. Most people do not get to hear Rock Steady in a live setting, but this particular genre is akin to American Soul music with elements of Jazz and a similar tempo and bounce as Hip Hop. Rock Steady hits are the most versioned/sampled in Jamaican culture and are the birthplace of Hip Hop in America. On that note, Jamaican Deejays were chatting or "rapping" over Rock Steady tunes long before DJ Kool Herc moved from Jamaica and birthed Hip Hop in NYC.

Growing up in the Jones Town area of Kingston, Jamaica, Winston took his love of music and signed on to Rock Steady superstar Alton "Mr. Soul" Ellis' backing band, The Flames, in the late 1960’s. You can hear his rich vocals on such classic hits as “Rocksteady” and “Girl I’ve Got a Date,“ as well as his own extensive discography. Winston formed The Righteous Flames and recorded at the famed Studio One with many of the Reggae producers who helped the genre become the cultural force it is today. This Rock Steady Revue will give the all-ages community a rare opportunity to see a living legend in person, making this show go down in history.
